GAA Rounders Senior Previews – Semi-Finals order to be decided

Sunday, 10th August 2025 – Mullahoran GAA, Tymon & Athlone

Senior Men – Erne Eagles vs Carrickmacross Emmets

📍 Mullahoran GAA 12:30 Ref – Jack

Carrickmacross Emmets come into this one unbeaten, holding a perfect 6–0 record and an impressive +75 run difference. They’ve scored a massive 111 runs in just six games, showing they have the firepower to put teams away quickly.

Erne Eagles (5–0–1) have also been strong this season, but their scoring output — 70 runs — is notably lower. That means they’ll need to be clinical with every opportunity they get. Last week’s surprise to many defeat to Breaffy will still be fresh in their minds, and you get the feeling they’ll be well up for this one.

With top spot in the group still not certain, this has all the makings of a cracking match with plenty of niggle. But with both into semi-final it’s not as important to either team.

Prediction: Carrickmacross Emmets by 6–8 runs.

Senior Mixed – Erne Eagles vs Carrickmacross Emmets

📍 Mullahoran GAA 2pm Ref – Jack

Carrickmacross are barely in contention. By my calculations, they would need to beat Erne Eagles by something in the region of 27 runs to overtake Cuchulainn, which is a tall order. It’s another group where run rate is going to be vital in deciding the placings. Still, it shows that even when results haven’t gone your way, there’s always something left to fight for.

Erne Eagles are joint-top on points with Glynn Barntown and Breaffy, sitting at 5–0–1 with a +34 run difference. Carrickmacross (2–0–4) have found life tough against the top-tier sides, while the Eagles’ defensive record — just 49 runs conceded — speaks for itself.

Prediction: Erne Eagles by 10–12 runs with innings to spare, with Carrick unlikely to have much interest in chasing a big margin late on.

Senior Ladies – Glynn Barntown vs Breaffy

📍 Athlone – 12:30

This is a huge clash between two unbeaten sides in the Senior Ladies championship. Glynn Barntown have been rock-solid defensively, conceding only 15 runs in three games, while Breaffy boast the more explosive attack, scoring 42 runs in the same number of matches.

With top spot and valuable momentum ahead of the finals at stake, this could easily go down to the last inning.

Prediction: Low-scoring draw.

Senior Mixed – Glynn Barntown vs Breaffy

📍 Athlone – 14:00

Another heavyweight showdown in the Senior Mixed, with both sides sitting at 5–0–1 and averaging over 13 runs per game. Breaffy’s +41 run difference edges Glynn’s +34, but there’s little to separate these two on paper. Expect an attacking, high-scoring classic.

Prediction: Breaffy by 2–3 runs.

Senior Mixed – Limekiln vs The Heath

📍 Tymon Park – 14:00

Limekiln and The Heath are both 1–0–5 and fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. The Heath have conceded the most runs in the league (96) and will need to tighten up considerably to compete here. Limekiln’s slightly better scoring record (47 runs) could prove decisive.

Prediction: Limekiln by 10–12 runs.

Senior Men – Glynn Barntown vs Breaffy

📍 Athlone – 15:30

Breaffy (5–0–1) are the league’s second-best attacking side, with 104 runs scored, while Glynn Barntown (4–0–2) have been one of the more disciplined defensive outfits. Breaffy’s power hitters could prove the difference, but Glynn have enough resilience to keep it close for most of the contest. I’ve just got a sneaky feeling that Glynn Barntown are being underestimated and could be the surprise package of the senior men’s.

Prediction: Glynn Barntown by 4-5 runs.

It’s a huge clash in the race for the top four. A Glynn win would leave them in a strong position with two games left. Kilmeena have found form late, and despite four early losses, they remain dangerous contenders, but know a loss and it’s likely their last game of the season.

Intermediate Mixed

🟡 Michael Glavey’s vs Galway City Rapparees

This is a key tie in Group A as both sides chase a top-two finish. Glavey’s sit joint-top with two wins from three, and another victory would leave them with one foot in the semi-finals. They’ve conceded just 36 runs across three games, showing they are one of the strongest defensive units in the group.

Remarkably, this is only Galway City Rapparees’ second match – but they made a solid start with a 23–6 win over Athenry. Still, the jump from Junior to Intermediate is no small task, and this test away to Glavey’s will give them a clearer sense of where they stand at this level.

Both sides are defensively disciplined, and this could be a low-scoring, tactical affair. Don’t be surprised if neither side breaks double figures, with every base earned likely to count.

It’s a pressure-packed Group A clash with everything—and almost nothing—on the line.

For the Rapparees, the task is deceptively simple: win, and a winner-takes-all showdown with St Senans awaits next weekend. But even with a loss, they’re not dead—provided they can somehow beat Senans by 20 runs or more in the final round. That path to the semi-finals exists… but only just.

Na Piarsaigh are in even deeper limbo. They need to beat Galway, and beat them well—then hope Galway bounce back and thrash St Senans the following week. It’s the ultimate long shot. They’re playing for survival, but relying on the team they’re trying to eliminate to become their unlikely saviours. That’s a Catch-22 if ever there was one.

Galway, still bewildered by how they let their opener slip, won’t want to leave anything to chance.

Junior Men’s Rounders Championship: Home Form Crucial as Knockout Places Loom

Junior Men’s Championship Review & Predictions

🟢 Group A

Galway City Rapparees could still emerge from Group A, with two crucial home games against Kilmore and St Senans to come on 6th July. Backed by home support and improving with every outing, the Rapparees are still in with a real chance of finishing in the top two.

Kilmore are in pole position and remain unbeaten. Their clash with St Senans will likely decide who secures a semi-final berth. Kilmore’s run rate and efficiency have stood out, and they should top the group.

St Senans have shown plenty of promise and will be a force in future seasons, but they may fall just short this time unless they can pull off a big result away from home against the Rapparees or Kilmore.

Na Piarsaigh and Sporting Limerick have both delivered spirited campaigns and good scoring form, but with games played against weaker opposition, they may struggle to keep pace in the final standings.

🔵 Group B

Myshall’s narrow win over Carrickmacross Emmets was possibly the most telling result of the group stage. It puts them firmly on course to qualify for the semi-finals, but they’ll need to rediscover their scoring touch if they hope to go further in Galway this August.

Inniskeen Grattans are also well-placed, with two wins from three. They’ll need to tidy up defensively, but remain strong contenders. Gusserane and Sean Connolly’s have both been competitive in spells, but the gap to the top two now looks insurmountable.

Round 4 in the Senior Men’s Rounders Championship delivered pivotal results that reshaped the top-four race.

Carrickmacross Emmets continued their unbeaten charge with an emphatic 18–4 win over Raheen. The Monaghan side were ruthless with the bat and clinical in the field, showing why they’re favourites for another semi-final appearance.
