Championship Week 6

On June 16th, we headed to Clonaslee GAA, Laois. Were Clonaslee Ladies hosted Barntown Gaels, Wexford. The Laois Ladies showed some great skills at bat, while Aine Dunne, Pitcher, Anne Kelly, Catcher and Angelina Daily, Short Stop all showed their veteran skills, which helped Clonaslee secure the win 21-8.

 
Following this game, Glynn/Barntown, Wexford faced off against Limekiln, Dublin. The Dub's managed to keep their opposition scoreless for two innings, due to some fine pitching from Adam Riordan, and great catches from Michael O Connell, 2B, and Colin Young , ROF. Wexford's, LOF, Paul Cooper, was stand out player for his club, catching everything hit his way, also managing to never be put out. Special mention goes to Limekiln's, Eddie Healy, who had a 100% success rate at bat. Game ended 22-8 in favour of Limekiln.
 
 
Across in Monaghan, we had more Senior Men's action with Carrickmacross facing Sean Connollys, Longford. The Ulster side had a comfortable win, 35-4. Carrick's Pitcher, Barry Lambe and 1st Base, Frank Duffy, were both top scorers, with either never getting out. Team mate Ronan Kiernan, produced most outs on second base, while their COF, Oran Kiernan was named 'Man of the Match' for his spectacular Home Run, along with some fine catches. Longford's Catcher, Paul Mulligan, had six outs to his name.
 
The following Saturday, we headed to Tymon Park, Dublin, were Limekiln hosted Erne Eagles, Cavan, in Mixed and Men's. The Dub's, Chris Hughes (P) and Eddie Healy (C) both had great games, taking ten outs between them. Team mate Adam Riordan (COF), was noted for a star catch, also never getting out for his four at bats, while Colin Young (LOF) hit a Home Run in the fourth innings. The sibling duo of Margaret Brady and Sean Brady, both led the way for the Cavan side, with neither being put out. Sean also had four catches as Back Stop. Ulster's, Hugh Briody, had a monster hit in the 5th, but the come back was too late, and the host team took the victory 14-6.
 
A tight game followed, with both teams leading at different stages of the game. Ulster' Short Stop, Barry McArdle, had a fantastic game, taking four outs and assisting another three. Barry was named 'Man of the Match' for his efforts. Eagles, James Anderson, was the only player never put out, while team mate, Darryl Dolan hit a Home Run, which ultimately was the winning of the game. Special mention to Limekiln's Pitcher, Adam Riordan, who was involved in six outs. Innings scores, 1-2, 3-0, 0-4, 3-3, 0- in favour of Erne Eagles.
 
Cuchulainn, Carlow hosted Skryne, Meath the following morning in Mixed competition.  This game could have went either way, with the Meath side leading for the first two innings, and a tie after the third, Skryne took the lead again after the fourth. Cuchulainn stayed calm for their last at bat, knocking in six runs, to win the game 14-13. Skryne's LOF and COF, Nicky Horan and Gavin Lynch, proved to be a difficult task for Cuchulainn. While Carlow's, Darryl O Mara, was named 'Man of the Match' for his display on first base, securing six outs. Ballon's, Shane Brenann and Billy Connors managed to avoid getting out, along with Meath's, Mary Ellen Sheridan. 
 
 
We traveled to Albert College Park, Dublin next. Were Na Fianna hosted Adamstown, Wexford, in Mixed, Ladies and Men. The South Leinster team hit hard in the first innings, with Daithi White scoring a Home Run. Daithi took most players out on First Base, and was also named  'Man of the Match. Wexford's Catcher, Sandra Thorpe had a great game fielding and batting, just getting denied a Home Run, due to sharp fielding from Na Fianna's, Ronan Gately and Mike Lang. Special Mention goes to Dublin's Aodhaghan, who debuted in the third innings, making two great catches as COF. Match result 26-3
 

Ladies was next. Unfortunately Na Fianna's Pitcher was injured, and after the first innings the game became a non runner. Adamstown's COF, Joanne Murphy and Second Base, Fiona Cullen showed some great fielding skills. Leanne Rowe made her presence known, after subbing on in the fourth innings and taking five of the six outs required to finish the game. Final result, Adamstown 16 Na Fianna 5.

 

Again Adamstown hit hard in the first innings of the Men's game, with Daithi White scoring yet another Home Run. Paul Delaney and Conor Murphy, both had a 100% success rate at bat, along with Na Fianna's, Liam Whelehan and Gary Bateson. Liam also put most players out, team mate Frank Twomey (3B), made three great catches in the third inning. Delaney, (LOF), made a superb catch to end the game, 17-5.

 

Up in Roscommon, Michael Glaveys faced Sean Connollys, Longford in Mixed. Heavy rain didn't discourage either team. Connollys had a good start, winning the first innings 4-2. However, once Glaveys pulled it together, they proved too strong for the Leinster squad. Smartly placed hits from Eamonn Carty and Anthony Leach, helped them secure the win 29-18. Stand out player for Connollys was Third Base, Chanelle McGuinness.
