Feile Weekend 2018

On the weekend of August 25th & 26th, we held our Under 15 Boys & Girls and Under 14 & 16 Mixed Feile, venue Limerick UL, Limerick.

The Under 15's competition took center stage on Saturday. First up it was the Girls and for the first time ever Athenry, Galway were crowned champions, beating off Ballybrown 12-5, Skryne 25-4, The Heath 15-4 & Breaffy 21-2, they had now secured their place in the final, facing Emo from Laois. This was a hard fought game, with Athenry winning two innings and drawing one. Fine fielding between Galways Pitcher, Catcher & 1st Base secured them a win.

The Boy's was next and again we crowned a first ever champion with Breaffy, Mayo, who have been runners up in previous years, set their sight on Gold. knowing they had a fight ahead stayed calm and beat Emo 7-4, Skryne 10-7 & Ballybrown 7-1, they had now secured a place in the Finals against Emo, Laois. A massive Home Run from Conor Bourke set his team alight, along with fast pitching form Tiernan Beirne, helped them along the way to win the game 24-16.

On Sunday it was time for our Mixed teams to show their talents. Eleven teams entered the Under 14 Mixed, it was going to be tough for Emo to retain their title, but they managed to pull it off, beating Breaffy 16-4, Ballybrown 1 3-1, Skryne 12-0, they now had a place in the Semi-Finals meeting Limekiln, Dublin. 0-0 after the first Emo hit hard in the second with Brocan O Reilly hitting a Home Run, 10-2 was the score after the second, Emo went on to score another 10 in the third and kept Limekiln to 9. They were paired against The Heath in the final, Grainne Keogh had a superb game on Second Base, while Sean Devitt & Padraigh Langford were never put out. Innings results Emo 1-2, 4-7, 8-5, 1-0, 5-2. Emo became two in a row Under 14 Mixed Champions.

Our last competition of the season was Under 16 Mixed, & The Heath had a fight on their hands to retain it also. In their first game they faced off against Skryne, only managing to win this by 1, next up was Cuchulainn, again managing to win only by a run, Breaffy followed and The Heath suffered a loss 5-2, but managed to secure a place in the Semi Finals against Cuchlainn of Carlow, which they won. The final saw The Heath v Breaffy and The Heath had revenge on their minds. Laois' Mark Phelan had some greta catches at Backstop along with powerful pitching from David O Brien, Eoin sherlock placed some fine hits, making sure he was never put out. Innings result, The Heath 3-8, 6-0, 10-3, 3-4, 2-5.
